June 5 (UPI) — Jorge Masvidal, one of many UFC’s hottest names, took to social media Friday to voice his displeasure with ongoing contract talks with the promotion.
Masvidal was anticipated to combat Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight title in July, however negotiations between Masvidal and the UFC have fallen aside.
“I’m not an unbiased contractor if I can not go wherever else to make a residing,” Masvidal wrote on Twitter. “Let me go and let me see if I’m worth it.”
It marked the second consecutive week that the UFC sparred with one among its greatest stars. Final week, UFC gentle heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones demanded his launch and stated he would relinquish his belt.
Jones and Masvidal are each represented by the Kawa brothers, Malki and Abe, of First Spherical Administration.
“I fought in backyards and these dudes by no means disrespected me the way in which I’m being now [by the UFC],” Masvidal wrote.
Following the UFC 250 weigh-ins Friday, UFC president Dana White advised reporters that “everyone desires extra money” and different sports activities leagues are at the moment negotiating with gamers over wage reductions because of seasons which have been shortened due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“You do not have to combat,” White stated. “Anyone that does not wish to combat does not must combat, together with Masvidal and Jon Jones and all these different guys. And it does not must be due to a pandemic. These guys are unbiased contractors. … We’re not begging individuals to combat.”
Masvidal responded to White’s feedback, saying that he should not examine the UFC to different leagues, which pay gamers “half the income they generate.” UFC fighters haven’t got a union.
“We’re negotiating from like what 12 % to perhaps 18 % of income we generate?” Masvidal wrote. “We’re negotiating down from approach beneath 50 % of the income. I do not receives a commission on the recent canine you promote within the enviornment or the brand on the cage. I’ve by no means made a greenback on a ticket you promote.
“I get punched within the face for a residing and even I do know the pandemic or what’s left of it has nothing to do with it.”
Masvidal is coming off a third-round TKO victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 244 in November. The win earned him the “BMF” title, which was specifically commissioned for the combat.
