Teen arrested after 150 mph chase through Santa Rosa County

Teen taken into custody during high-speed pursuit in Santa Rosa County

An 18-year-old Louisiana man, Romero Nail, was arrested following a high-speed chase on Wednesday evening that spanned Santa Rosa County and ended in Baldwin County. Nail is currently being held in Baldwin County Jail on a charge of fleeing, with additional charges expected as the investigation continues.

The incident began when a Florida State Trooper observed a black Ford Mustang driving recklessly at 130 miles per hour on Interstate 10 Westbound near Mile Marker 35. The trooper alerted other troopers, and another trooper near Mile Marker 22 attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

At this point, the driver accelerated from 130 mph to over 150 mph, fleeing by passing vehicles on both the North and South shoulders. Upon exiting at Mile Marker 17 onto Scenic Highway, troopers lost sight of the Mustang and began searching the area. With help from a motoring citizen, a trooper located the vehicle parked in a driveway off Scenic Court. As troopers approached, the driver aggressively accelerated away, driving through several yards and down an embankment back onto Scenic Highway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the driver continued to flee recklessly. Troopers briefly engaged the Mustang again before disengaging a second time. Despite assistance from local citizens, troopers were unable to maintain active pursuit but managed to track the vehicle as it traveled out of state.

The black Ford Mustang was eventually located at a gas station in Baldwin County, where a local deputy conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver. The FHP issued a warrant for Nail, who was arrested on that warrant by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Nail’s mugshot has not yet been made available.
